Kike and the Wonder of the Savannah
$2,600.00Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. A lone cheetah stares across the grasslands on the lookout for prey—and danger—as the light fades from the sky. Cheetahs are an endangered species with barely 7,000 remaining in the wild. They are elegant graceful cats that must compete with lions and hyenas and leopards. These are larger and dangerous competitors that kill their cubs and steal their food; they sometimes kill adults too. There is an air of frailty to this image of Kike (star of Big Cat Week in 2003-05) as she stands on a termite mound ready to settle somewhere safe for the night when lions, hyenas and leopards are most active. She was one of our favorites; a gentle, trusting cat.
