Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. Shakira the cheetah and her cub, Duma, staying close (2004). The mantle of long grey hair running along the back of a cheetah cub helps to conceal it from danger posed by predators. This little female cub called Duma survived to adulthood and reared cubs of her own. In 2008, Shakira gave birth to 6 cubs that were featured in Big Cat Live. Three of the cubs—all females—survived to independence.
