Father and Son: Moja and Askari
$250.00Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. Askari of the Marsh Pride lends a shoulder to rest on. Male lions can be a bit grumpy and irritable at times with young lion cubs, and prefer to rest up with their male companions. But this particular male known as Askari (meaning ‘watchman’ or ‘guard’) seemed to enjoy the attention of the small cubs in the Marsh Pride. And this particular little cub called Moja (meaning ‘number one’) adored the company of his father. He always sought him out to greet and play with him when he was in attendance. Sadly, Askari was badly beaten up by other pride males a few years later and had to be euthanized.
