Scarface: The Real Lion King
$2,750.00Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. Scarface is one of a group of male lions we call the 4 Musketeers, a powerful coalition of relatives that once dominated the territory of the Marsh Pride of lions. Scarface is one of the most impressive male lions we have ever had the good fortune to spend time with. He suffered a terrible injury to the right side of his face in 2011 that irreparably damaged his eye. He was then shot in 2013 in an incident with livestock owners but recovered after being treated by veterinarians. Ever since that time he has remained in the vicinity of Paradise Plain and Serena Lodge, well to the south of Marsh Pride territory.
Scarface is now past his prime but remains an icon among lions and a favorite with human observers. He was always particularly gentle with any young cubs, allowing them to greet him and bury themselves in his magnificent mane. These days he spends much of his time on his own or in the company of lionesses from the prides that he still frequents.
This is how he would have looked with two good eyes.
