Candle in the Wind
$2,499.00Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. When a male lion steps out onto the African savannah, his mane blowing in the wind, it evokes a sense of awe and wonder in people's souls like no other creature on earth. We know this male as Blondie because of his beautiful blonde mane. He is one of two pride males that patrol the Acacia Pride's territory in the Mara North Conservancy. This area is situated just beyond the northern boundary of the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, one of our favorite places; home of Fig Tree Ridge and Leopard Gorge where we have spent so many happy and memorable times in the company of lions and leopards. We know every inch/centimeter of this area, and so does Blondie and his companion who patrol the rocky outcrops and acacia thickets, roaring at the dawn and laying down scent to deter interlopers, signifying that this land is their land. Blondie was in his prime—a powerful Warrior King—when Angie captured his portrait early one morning. You can feel the confidence in his body posture/language as he surveys his kingdom, searching for the place where the lionesses and cubs of the Acacia Pride are feeding or resting.
